Industry Relations Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Insights & Industry Relations
FLSA: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Insights & Industry Relations
Responsible for assisting with the implementation of community awareness strategies that increase the public’s awareness of the tourism industry and the economic impact it generates. This position assists the Director of Insights & Industry Relations with a variety of projects including data, event planning, media relations and reporting.
Media Relations
- Distribute press releases to appropriate media outlets in Salem, the two-county region and the Portland/Metro area
- Coordinate industry related media requests and interviews
- Assist with gathering information for media communications
- Maintain a library of content
- Proactively share industry related coverage with Trave Salem staff to keep the team informed
Industry & Government Relations
- Collaborate with the Director to prepare an annual government & industry communications strategy in the annual business plan
- Maintain a database of government and community leadership contacts
- Distribute quarterly Travel Salem & industry updates to appropriate entities
- Schedule and coordinate Speakers Bureau presentations to various groups (e.g., chambers, city councils, Rotary and other civic groups)
- Create presentations as assigned by supervisor
Reports, Plans & Communications
- Assist with quarterly and annual reports and dashboards as needed
- Coordinate content and distribution of Industry eNewsletters
Event Planning
- Assist with Travel Salem’s signature event: Mid-Willamette Valley Tourism Summit
- Assist with neighborhood block parties & murals
- Create National Tourism Week activities (e.g., proclamation, bridge lights, special event)
- Assist with other events as needed (e.g., industry networking, HQ events)
Research
- Assist with research projects that include community development, visitor intercept surveys, etc.
- Research industry award opportunities for Travel Salem programs and submit nominations
Administration
- Assist with slide deck presentations
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
- Assist with quarterly Market Barometer Report
- Collect monthly data reports from City of Salem
Miscellaneous Requirements
- Duties may include weekends, after hours & travel
- Responsible for clerical needs
- Work on projects as assigned
- Serve as occasional back-up in the Travel Salem Visitor Center
- Vehicle required and valid unencumbered Oregon Drivers License
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds
- Participate in Travel Salem activities
