30 minutes WEST of Salem, Oregon

West of Salem off of Highway 22 rolling hills of vineyards will entice you to visit some of the area’s wineries and taste some award-winning wines. Along the way enjoy the antique shops and galleries in the historic towns of Monmouth, Independence and Dallas. Dallas is the seat of Government for Polk County and has a state of the art Aquatic Center. Rich with history, Dallas was the end of the old Applegate Trail and features a historic downtown area, which includes the 1899 Polk County Historic Courthouse. Dallas also has the oldest tannery west of the Mississippi River, the Muir & McDonald Leather tannery, circa 1863. Be sure to visit the Polk County Historical Society & Museum in Rickreall and test your luck at Spirit Mountain Casino located in Grand Ronde. Before heading back to Salem investigate the little town of Willamina, which is home to the Coastal Hills Art Tour and Christmas Lights Parade.
