30 minutes NORTH of Salem, Oregon

A great day tour north of Salem off of Interstate 5 (I-5) will take you to the historic town of Aurora. Aurora offers a walking tour past 35 historic buildings in its National Historic District. The quaint community also attracts visitors from near and far for their spectacular antique shops. West of Aurora is the attractive western town of St. Paul. St. Paul is nationally recognized for the St. Paul Rodeo that takes place during the Fourth of July holiday each year. St. Paul is also the home of the Heirloom Old Rose Garden that has three gardens with 1500 varieties of roses. Near St. Paul is Champoeg State Heritage Area, which is the “Birthplace of Oregon”. Champoeg is also a State Park that combines history and recreation along the Willamette River. On the way back to Salem be sure to visit the Woodburn Company Stores, and the Woodburn Historical Berry Museum in Woodburn. The city of Mt. Angel, known for its famous Benedictine Abbey and German Oktoberfest celebration is a must see. Before entering Salem is the city of Keizer, known as the "Iris Capital of the World". Keizer is home to a Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants baseball team.
