Salem Multicultural Inst - New Exec Director PositionThe Salem Multicultural Institute (SMI), sponsor of the World Beat Festival is pleased to announce the opening of recruitment for an Executive Director. Resumes and letters of interest will be accepted by mail or email until end of the day on Monday, July 14th at the following address: Terry Samuel Interviews will be scheduled in August, with a target hire date of September. The position will remain open until filled. Co-founder Mona Hayes will continue to serve as director during the interim. SMI is a volunteer-centered, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1997 to address issues of racism and intolerance in the Salem area. Its mission is to collaborate with public and private organizations to promote harmony and understanding through innovative, educational cultural programs and activities. In addition to the annual World Beat Festival, which welcomes an estimated 40-50,000 guests to Salem's Riverfront Park annually, SMI has a small gallery in downtown Salem called the World Beat Gallery. The gallery hosts exhibits showcasing the history, traditions and contributions of area ethnic communities. Staff and volunteers also coordinate the Fabric of Cultures performance and lecture series to complement the exhibits. Other SMI programs include the World Beat Dragon Boat club and year-round cultural resources and referrals. |
