Mission Mill Museum Names New Executive Director

Peter MacMillan Booth, (44), of Tucson, Arizona, has been appointed Executive Director of Mission Mill Museum, effective August 4th.

“We are delighted that Peter will be joining the Mission Mill team as Executive Director.  Our search yielded several excellent candidates but the Executive Committee was unanimous in its selection,” noted Mission Mill Museum Association President Ed Austin.

A product of a fifth-generation Western family, Peter earned his Ph.D. in American West and Native American History (Purdue University).  He has taught history on the college level and has served as a museum professional with the Arizona Historical Society-Tucson and the Desert Caballeros Western Museum in Wickenburg, Arizona.  Peter is presently leaving an educational technology group that assists school districts across the country.  He has also been serving as a member of the Tucson-Pima County Historical Commission, has been on the board for the Santa Cruz Valley Heritage Alliance, and is a scholar for the Arizona Humanities Council.

Booth will replace Maureen Thomas, who left Mission Mill in January after 10 years.  Curator Keni Sturgeon has been serving as Interim Executive Director.

Booth said of his new position at Mission Mill Museum, “I am extremely pleased with this opportunity to join to the Mission Mill family, as well as the Salem community. It is quite exciting to find such an institution with so many treasures such as the Lee House and the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill.  It is very exciting to imagine the possibilities.  Salem is a wonderful city and I look forward to expanding the Museum's presence within the community and beyond."

Peter and his wife, Dana, are the proud parents of three young and very energetic sons -Anthony (6), Owen (4) and Albert (2).  Excited about the move, his sons are busy planning how they are going to get their toys (and their pet fish) to their new home.
