The 2,796-acre refuge offers excellent wildlife observation areas, trails that meander through wetlands and oak/ash forest, raised boardwalks, interpretive exhibits and observation/photography blinds. Most of the interior of the refuge is closed to public entry while the geese are in residence from Oct. 1-Mar. 31.

Independence Bicycle Boater Campground

Located at Independence's Riverview Park for travelers on the Willamette River Water Trail and the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway. This basic camping area has five sites, picnic tables, bike rack, water tap and bike repair station. WiFi is available through camp host during summer months. A camp site costs $10 per night.

Luckiamute Landing State Natural Area

Rivers, paddles, ponds and trails - Luckiamute Landing is nature's water park. The North Trailhead opens nearly 3 miles of hiking trails. Approximately five miles from Oregon 99W/Suver Road intersection.

Stayton Riverfront Park

Stayton Riverfront Park is located along the North Santiam River. You can enter the park via the parking lot entrance just south of the Stayton Water Treatment Plant. No vehicles are allowed on the property, only foot traffic please.

The Willamette River

The Willamette (Will-am-it) River, the largest river in Oregon, runs through Salem and Marion & Polk Counties. Many species of fish and wildlife make the river their home and provide a great sightseeing experience.

Kayakering at Wallace Marine Park

A 114.45 acre park located in West Salem. Home to one of the best sports facilities in the Northwest the park is also a focal point for water sport enthusiasts. A boat ramp and floating boat docks provide access to the Willamette River.

Within the boundaries of the Capitol grounds exist hundreds of varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers providing a dazzling display for all seasons. This park and mall is one of Oregon's newest State Parks and includes the new Oregon World War II Memorial with a 33-foot-tall, 15-ton obelisk. Brochures available in the Capitol.
